Ligue 2 is the second tier of French football, contested by 18 clubs over 34 matchdays. The top two earn automatic promotion to Ligue 1 while the following clubs contest a playoff, and the bottom places carry relegation to the semi-professional National division. The league's principal significance is developmental: France's academy system is among the most productive in world football, and Ligue 2 is where a large share of its graduates get first senior minutes before moving up or abroad. Squads are consequently young, athletic and prone to rapid turnover. Several clubs with Ligue 1 pedigree and substantial support pass through, and financial regulation by the DNCG periodically forces demotions or restructuring independent of results. Playing style favours physical intensity and direct transitions over possession.
No Ligue 2 fixtures are scheduled in the next seven days. The 2026/2027 season runs from 8 August 2026 to 22 May 2027.
